Weingut WittmanNearly two decades ago our wine estate converted from conventional to controlled ecological viticulture. We have been members of the organic farmers’ association Naturland since 1990. Ecological viticulture means uncompromising abstention from the use of herbicides, chemical or synthetic fungicides or insecticides, and easily soluble mineral fertilizers. This keeps the soil healthy and ensures that the vines are deeply rooted, which in turn results in a good supply of nutrients and minerals. This fosters the terroir character of a wine. This means much more work for us in the vineyards, but at the same time, healthy grapes grow in healthy soil and this ultimately guaruntees the high quality of our wines. |
