Rockburn: Pinot Noir

A deep ruby red in its youth, the 2004 Rockburn Pinot Noir immediately impresses with its opulent dark fruit nose, displaying aspects of black cherry and plums and tempered by bright strawberry and spice highlights. The palate introduces itself with the same level of fruit weight, supported by sensual silky tannins through the mid palate with a long spicy finish of chocolate and current cake. This wine may be enjoyed immediately, yet will reward another six years careful cellaring.

Ram’s Leap: Merlot

Always the last red to be harvested, the merlot seems to take its time, optimizing the long ripening days before harvest. The small berries and late harvest date contribute to the low yields of 2 tonnes/acre. To maximize flavor concentration the must is left on skins for an extended period (14 days) and then further development in 2-3 year old French & American oak hogs heads for 12 months.

Ram’s Leap: Shiraz

“Old world sophistication with an Australian Pedigree”. The Shiraz is fermented with a Rhone yeast at 28-30 degrees Celsius. This is to emulate the elegant style of the wines of the “Cote du Rhone” with a hallmark Australian intensity. The ultra low yields (2 tonnes/acre) harvested from the Shiraz blocks is a testament to the intense flavor and color profile and the reason why it is the flagship varietal. After an extended time on skins (14 days) the wine is left to mature for 12 months in 2-3 year old American oak. This allows the wine to retain its delicate fruit expression and display luscious coco characters on the palate.

Rockblock: Syrah “Seven Hills”

Sourced entirely from Seven Hills Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley of eastern Oregon this wine offers dazzling aromas of milk chocolate, mulberry, black cherry, plum, cedar allspice and licorice. The palate displays briary blackberry, red currant, fresh tobacco, cedar, licorice and bittersweet chocolate flavors leading to a long, structured finish. The name Rockblock was chosen to reinforce the concept that the most profound expressions of Syrah are grown in areas where the soils are nutrient poor and often “rocky”.

Rockblock: Syrah “SoNo”

Oregon’s warmest climates for growing winegrapes are in the South and the North. By combining distinctive syrah from both regions we have created a unique blended Syrah. The grapes for SoNo Syrah are sourced from the same properties as our single vineyard Syrahs in the far South and in the Northeast of the state. With aromas of ripe cherry, asian spices, lavender, black olive and tobacco and silky textured palate of black cherry, cola, anise, dried plum, cocoa and toast with fine tannins. SoNo Syrah is lithe, forward and approachable.
