Vineyard: X Winery
Region: California
In 1999, Reed Renaudin was encouraged to chase his dream by professors reviewing his business plan at Cal Poly-San Obispo, where he was pursuing his MBA. The stated goal of the thesis was to create wines with an outstanding value proposition for customers. Renaudin poured all his resources and efforts into obtaining financial backing so the he could cultivate a portfolio of products that married quality and value.
When trying to decide a name for his unique brand, several ideas were conjured with an X beside the ones that stood out. As it turned out, it was a unanimous vote that the ‘X’s’ were better like than any of the other ideas.
In 2001, the winery became official with a very modest first run of 1600 total cases of Amicus Cabernet, X Napa Cabernet and X Petite Sirah.
