Wine: Conterno Fantino: Barolo “Vigna del Gris” DOCG
Price Range: Over $75
100% select Nebbiolo cru from southeasterly exposed vines on a sandier portion of Ginestra’s marly, calcareous terrain compared to Sorì Ginestra, favoring delicacy and elegance.
The vineyard is at 300 meters above sea level, Guyot-trained, with a density of 2,000 vines per acre. Maceration on the skins lasts 6 to 7 days, followed by 12 to 13 days’ temperature-controlled fermentation at 28° C. The wine is subsequently aged 24 months in French oak barriques, previous to a further year in the bottle.
A ruby to garnet gem with complex bouquet of berry fruit, brier rose, tobacco, subtle goudron and licorice confirmed on the rich, full, elegant, lingering palate. Slightly more forward than Sorì Ginestra.

PiedmontLocated in the most northwestern area of Italy, Piedmont is bordered by Switzerland and France with the Alps and Maritime Alps surrounding two-thirds of the region. The seasons are some of the most extreme with abundant, winter snows and hot, arid summers. While ranked 7th in overall wine production, Piedmont boasts as the number one area for officially classified DOC-DOCG wines in Italy. There are no wines produced that have been designated IGT. |
